In football, the term “game development” means identifying a specific behavior within the various game situations which allows the individual or team to concretely resolve it in relation to the intended objective.
The choice of a “game development” therefore represents the implementation of a tactical thought of the footballer or team who, based on the context, choose how to behave. In practice the “game developments” are nothing more than the words with which to write a text; from here we can understand the importance of having a large dictionary from which to choose the most suitable words to express our thoughts.

Game developments are divided into two large families:
Developments in the possession phase
Developments in the non-possession phase
Each coach, with his / her own ability to observe and analyze, will be able to extrapolate from the matches and from the study of situations the “game developments” that he considers important and then re-propose them in a simplified way in training, dictating principles and behaviors consistent with his / her own belief and own philosophy.
One of the most important developments in the game of ball possession is the change of direction which consists in the ability of the player in possession of the ball to change suddenly the sense of running according to the situation that presents itself. The change of direction requires refined technical and coordinative skills and if applied in the appropriate ways and times it can have great effectiveness in the game.
In the proposed exercises, the players will be able to familiarize themselves with multiple situations and then get used to processing their thoughts and quickly choose the game development to be used, also experiencing the time and space to be used. In these contexts, the coach will be able to make individual or team corrections with regard to the methods and times of execution.
The instructional video below presents some examples of change of direction to be proposed to athletes during training.
